Various microbes have been on this planet much longer than we humans. They evolved more quickly because they are simpler than we are, but that does not mean that they are trying to get in our way, get along with us in a reasonable way, or do us harm. Instead, it is as if these miniature creatures have decided that the world belongs to them and we are intruders to be chased away later. And so today, and every day, infection attacks us from all sides.

Sure, there are bacteria that leave us alone, and of course there are bacteria that are friendly to us. And the hostile microbes and we humans are engaged in a slow and never-ending battle. It is literally a fight to the death.

But bacteria and viruses do not just get in our way if we don\’t want to put up with them; they can even be seen by our naked eyes. They are so small that we cannot even see them with the naked eye, and they will not even let us physically eliminate them.So we humans invented a weapon: antibiotics for bacteria. We use it to remove or try to remove unwanted infections. We humans already know many types of antibiotics. For example, macrolides, tetracyclines, sulfonamides, lincosamides, penicillins, cephalosporins, aminoglycosides, peptides, glycopeptides, monobactams, carbapenems, bacitracins, colistin, chloramphenicol trimethoprim-based, and rifampicin-based.

And each time, we were after one thing. To kill or at least drive out the infections we didn\’t want. Antibiotics allow us to overcome many diseases. We use antibiotics to kill infectious agents so that they do not kill us. Because here size does not matter, even the smallest things can afflict us. But with antibiotics, we can fight them. Even if resistant bacteria are on the rise, we don\’t have to worry that someday the little buggers will be left alone.
